Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony between Darussalam Pilotage Services Sdn Bhd (DPS) with Malaysia Maritime Academy Sdn Bhd (MMASB) & Scholarship Signing Ceremony for the Deck Officer Cadet Program

Tuesday, 14 May 2024 – DPS marked a significant milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia Maritime Academy Sdn Bhd (MMASB) at Indera Kayangan Ballroom, The Empire Brunei.

The event was graced by the presence of the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications. Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy), Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, in his capacity as the DPS Chairman, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Raja Dato Reza Zaib Shah, Yang Mulia Mohd Denny bin Mohd Isa; MD/CEO of MISC Maritime Services Sdn Bhd and representative of the President & Group CEO of MISC Berhad, Yang Mulia Eddie bin Ahmad Khodzali; CEO of Malaysia Maritime Academy Sdn Bhd (MMASB) representatives from MMASB, and other distinguished guests, including members of the DPS Board of Directors, senior government officials, managing directors, and scholarship recipients along with their families.

In his welcoming remarks, DPS General Manager Zil Husam emphasized the strengthened collaboration with MMASB through the MoU. He highlighted that the partnership aims to drive advancements in maritime education, research, and industry practices. Additionally, it encompasses a mutual exploration of interests in maritime services and products, setting the stage for future joint initiatives that promise to innovate and lead the industry.

Following the MoU event, a scholarship signing ceremony was held for the Deck Officer Cadet Program, where 10 pilot scholars will undertake a Diploma in Nautical Studies at MMASB’s leading maritime training academy, Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM). This scholarship will equip future deck officers with a Certificate of Competency Class 3 certification in addition to a Diploma in Nautical Studies, paving the way for their future careers as maritime pilots.

The initiative reflects DPS’s ongoing commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening Brunei Darussalam’s maritime workforce through education and professional development opportunities. By investing in structured maritime training pathways, DPS aims to contribute towards building a skilled and competent generation of maritime professionals capable of supporting the nation’s growing maritime sector.
