DPS Second Cohort Cadet Scholarships Signing Ceremony

Thursday, 29 May 2025 – Darussalam Pilotage Services (DPS) proudly awarded scholarships to nine cadets to pursue a Diploma in Nautical Studies at Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM), marking another significant milestone in the company’s commitment to developing and preparing them to become Brunei Darussalam’s future maritime pilots.

The official scholarship signing ceremony was held at the Goldstone Ballroom of the Centrepoint Hotel, was graced by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Deputy Minister of Finance & Economy (Economy) and Chairman of DPS.

Also in attendance were Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), Yang Mulia Captain (R) Zil Husam bin Haji Abdul Rahman, and Chief Executive of ALAM Ts. Dr. Captain Manivannan Subramaniam, alongside members of the DPS Board of Directors, senior government officials, managing directors, and family members of the scholar.

The nine selected cadets represent the second batch of maritime pilot scholars sponsored by DPS, continuing the company’s efforts to nurture highly skilled local pilots within the maritime sector. Through this scholarship programme, DPS aims to equip Bruneian youths with internationally recognised maritime education and training, preparing them for future careers as maritime pilots and Deck Officers.

The scholarship programme also supports Brunei Darussalam’s broader economic diversification objectives under Wawasan Brunei 2035 by contributing towards the development of a knowledgeable, highly skilled, and future-ready workforce. DPS recognises that nurturing local expertise is essential in ensuring the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the nation’s maritime industry.

The successful launch of the second batch of maritime pilot scholars reflects DPS’s dedication to shaping the next generation of maritime pilots and advancing Brunei Darussalam’s maritime future.
