OVERVIEW
PILOTAGE SERVICE
A licensed maritime pilot guides ships through difficult or congested seas such as harbors, ports, or other constricted waterways. These pilots are wellversed in local sea conditions, such as terrain, currents, tides, and potential navigational dangers.
They aid the captain and crew of the ship in securely steering the vessel through these complicated zones. Pilotage services are critical for avoiding mishaps and guaranteeing the safe passage of ships.
For decades, pilots with local expertise have been recruited on board ships to safely lead vessels into or out of port – or wherever navigation may be deemed hazardous, particularly when a shipmaster is unfamiliar with the area.
In addition to local knowledge and competence, pilots can communicate effectively with the shore and tugs, typically in the local language.
Qualified pilots are typically employed by the local port or maritime administration and supply their services to ships for a charge based on the ship’s tonnage, draft, or other factors.
TOWAGE SERVICE
Towage service are in charge of towing and moving vessels in various bodies of water, notably when a ship is cripples, in crises, or needs assistance traversing tight area. Tugs, which are large, specialized vessels, are often employed in towing activities.
They assist with pushing or pulling huge vessels, barges, or other marine structures that are unable to move on their own owing to mechanical problems, inclement weather, or other operational constraints.
